Family being scattered to all points of the compass, Christmas a few years ago became a photo expedition – destination: Moab, Utah. Despite frigidly cold temperatures of near-zero Fahrenheit, our objective was Sunrise at Dead Horse Point State Park in Utah.  Only 32 miles from our nearly-empty hotel in Moab, the park can be reached in under an hour; with sunrise expected at about 0730 it was a workable time to ‘rise and shine.’  Warm down coats, flip-out mittens, balaclava head coverings and, of course, tripods are required equipment for which we are thankful. The reward is a viewpoint 2000 feet above a major gooseneck turn of the mighty Colorado River just prior to first light.  Quiet, calm, windless: what a contrast with what it must have been when the waters of the Flood were carving these grand channels for our appreciation. Often a full enjoyment of His glorious creation takes a bit of effort and a willingness to stop, look, listen – and bundle up!

Blessings to you this season celebrating the birth-incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
